Manitoba hosted two Bull Riders Canada events this weekend, and when the dust settled, it was the first-year riders standing on top. The Hanover Ag Spring Twist Off (a High-Paced Series event) in Grunthal on Friday and the Municipality of North Norfolk Bull Bash in MacGregor on Saturday delivered strong showings from new and seasoned riders alike, along with a return champion in the barrel racing in Grunthal.

On Friday, Davis Young (R.) of Leader, SK came to Grunthal and put together one of the most complete performances of his season so far. Coming off an impressive 3rd place showing in Meadow Lake, SK the evening before, the rookie went wire to wire, topping the long round on LSB Sling Shot with an 84, then returning in the championship round to post an 87.5 on LSB Sons of a Junkie for the event win. Young took home $2,820 and 200 average points, taking a BRC event win for the second time this season.

Wyatt Fennig of North Battleford, SK had a strong showing as well, finishing second overall after placing second in the championship round on LSB Moosomin Dodge Elk with an 85. Kaden Piper of Stoughton, SK posted an 83 on MBB Old School Kool to finish second in the long round and third overall. Other successful rides included Wyatt Milgate, Toby Adams (R.), and Lucas Ozirney.

In the barrel racing, 10 competitors raced in the arena with the fastest time of the night coming from the young-gun Alexis Rietze from Stanley, MB. Both Alexis and returning champ Kathy Johnston from Murillo, ON, returned to the arena for the head-to-head match off. Kathy's final run of the weekend edged out Alexis for the top spot overall and brought her total winnings to $1,017.00.

Twenty-four hours later, we saddled up and went down the road to MacGregor where the tale of two rookies continued. Jace Beierbach (R.) of Whitewood, SK led the long round with an 84.5 on MBB Los Endos, the highest score of the round. Behind him were rides from Jayce Rieger (R.), Toby Adams (R.), Wyatt Fennig, Lucas Ozirney, Tanner Harrick (R.).

In the championship round, it was the bulls to make a statement! Only one rider was able to successfully last the 8 seconds and that was Kaden Piper, the highest ranked BRC rider attending these 2 events. Kaden is no rookie, well into his 3rd year of BRC competition, and having already won a number of events. Though he had an outstanding ride on LSB Scooby Snacks, the score came in at 84, just half a point below Jace's score from earlier in the night. As there were no riders to cover both their bulls, this meant that Jace was crowned the champion based on his one ride from the long round, and his first ever event win in the BRC!

Congrats to all the winners this past weekend and especially to the new riders this season. Crossfire Bullriding now looks to the end of July with the next event in Midale, SK on July 31st kicking off a run of 5 events in as many weeks!
