The Hanover Ag BRC Invitational presented by Steinbach Feeds, the largest two-day Bull Riders Canada event in Manitoba, returned to Grunthal last week. Featuring a brand-new format, double points towards the ladder and $13,500 added; more than any BRC event this year outside the Finals! Drawing the best in the country, we saw many outstanding rides, including Brodi Beasley finally besting his nemesis in MBB Sock Monkey for the highest score yet to be posted this season!
The two-day event used a format a bit different compared to other years. Rather than two separate days, the whole weekend was treated as one event across four rounds. Rounds One and Two ran on day one, with Round Three and the Championship Round finishing on day two. That meant three guaranteed bulls for every rider, and a fourth for the top 10, who advanced to a pick-your-poison Championship Round where each man chose his own bull in order of standing.
The cowboys weren't messing around in Round One. Nine riders reached the buzzer for a 50% success rate, the best of any round at the event. The very first rider out of the chutes was Chase Skene who took on SBB Lil Man, a bull who threw him to the ground just a week previous in Waskada. This time, Chase was victorious, setting the bar at 74.5 points. We then saw rides from Davis Young and Wyatt Wiancko. Marshall Senger rode RKO Chain Smoker for 81 points, marking the very first qualified ride on that bull all season, with enough points to take the round lead. He would hold that through successful rides from Kaden Piper, Lucas Ozirney, Hayden Mulvey, and Brodi Beasley. At the second-last ride of the round, returning Invitational winner and 2025 BRC champ Jeremy Maisonneuve would ride MBB Old School Kool to the buzzer and match Marshall's score of 81.
Going into round two, Wyatt Milgate got his first ride of the event followed shortly after by Mason Hamilton who rode RKO Razors Edge, a previous Bull of the Event winner from Waskada and a bull holding a 1-for-5 record against riders, until Mason covered and scored 84.5 to move to the top of the round. Davis Young covered his second bull of the night, and then Brodi Beasley conquered SBB Orange Popsicle - a bull that would be named Thursday's Bull of the Night - for an incredible 87.5 points! Following him, Hayden Mulvey and Jestin Jacklin each rode to the buzzer. Marshall Senger attempted his hand at MBB Holy Moses but missed the buzzer by six hundredths of a second, stopping the clock at 7.94 seconds. His rival from the first round, Jeremy Maisonneuve, was next to ride and covered MBB Five One - Five O, the first time this season a rider was able to do so. Jeremy's 78.5 was not enough to overtake Brodi's 87.5 for the round win as Brodi was crowned the day champ with a two round total of 163.

Friday started a bit slow as the first 5 riders struggled to gain a score. 6th out of the gate was Wyatt Milgate who covered SBB Indian Palace for 82 points. Following him, we saw success from Lucas Ozirney, Marshall Senger, Jestin Jacklin, Jeremy Maisonneuve, and Wyatt Fennig. Second last to ride was the number 2 man in the BRC standings, Hayden Mulvey. Hayden was matched up against MVB Route 66, a bull that had not been ridden yet this season, including throwing Wyatt Fennig the previous night. Hayden reached the 8 second whistle and was awarded 84 points, the top score of the round.
The very last rider of the round was the previous day's winner, Brodi Beasley. Brodi was trailing in 4th place, and with two other riders sitting on a perfect 3-for-3, he needed a qualified ride for a shot at the event win. Brodi matched up with MBB Self Esteem but hit the ground early. However, the judges noted that he was fouled at the gate and was offered a re-ride on MBB Old School Kool. Again Brodi didn't get his eight seconds, but Old School Kool, the same bull that had carried Jeremy to the top of Round One the night before, stumbled partway through and didn't give the rider a fair chance. Brodi was offered a third bull. This time, matched against MVB Gold Coast, he got the ride he wanted and ended the round with an 81.5 score, bringing his total to 244.5 and putting him back at the top of the leaderboard!
Coming into the final round of the event, the top 10 returning riders were able to pick the bulls they wanted to ride. Wyatt Fennig and Mason Hamilton both weren't able to cover their bulls. Third out of the chute was Davis Young who rode MBB Joshua's Habit to set the bar at 86.5 points. Lucas Ozirney matched his score on RKO Boots and Hearts. No other riders were able to cover in the Championship round until the final three, who were also the only three riders with a score in every round: Hayden Mulvey, Jeremy Maisonneuve, and Brodi Beasley. First up was Hayden who bested MVB Wreckonciled for 85.5, moving him to the top with two riders left. Immediately after him, the defending champ Jeremy rode MVB Rock N Salt Nails, taking over first place with an 87 point ride.
Needing just 81.5 points to win, Brodi was sitting on a bull he got first pick of, MBB Sock Monkey. This was a bull that had thrown him twice in the past, and even though he could have chosen Wreckonciled, a bull he'd previously covered in Bengough for 86.5 points, he chose a challenge instead. With the title on the line, Brodi nodded his head and Sock Monkey exploded out of the chute, faked to the left, and spun to the right. Brodi was able to match the bull for every jump and rode until the buzzer. When the numbers went up, Brodi scored a 90.5! This would not only be the highest of his BRC career but also the highest scored ride of any event this season. With no one left to ride, the win was his. Brodi walked away with $4,464.00, 1,060 BRC points, and the winner's trophy thanks to his event total of 335, with Jeremy Maisonneuve sitting second with 325.5 and Hayden Mulvey third with 319. Already at the top of the BRC standings, Brodi extended his lead further and in his rookie year, his spot at the Sylvan Lake Finals looks all but locked in. What an incredible showing by all the riders and especially Brodi Beasley. MBB Sock Monkey took Friday's Bull of the Night, capping an event where the best bull in the pen and the best rider in the country met for the third time, and this time, they set a season record.
