It's not easy to get started in the sport of bull riding. Being one of the most dangerous and intimidating sports in the world, it's not always clear how to take the first steps. This is why in 2019, Crossfire created the Novice Series with the goal of getting younger riders more experience and boost their confidence before they move into the open bullriding.

During the majority of the Crossfire shows throughout the season, young riders, usually under 18 years of age, are invited to take part in the Novice Series where they have the opportunity to get on bulls of a less formidable nature. While these novice bulls will still buck to the best of their ability, they will be more relaxed in the chute and overall have a less agressive demeanor, giving the young riders a fair chance to ride.
As the season progresses, the Novice Riders gain points and make their way up the standings, which is based on an independent point system. At the end of the season, the points are tallied up and the winner announced at the final Crossfire Bullriding event of the year. In 2025, that event will be the Boneyard General Repair Boyz & Bullz presented by Westrans taking place on October 3rd in Eriksdale, MB. During the event, the finalists will compete for the title and the first place winner will be awarded the Novice Bullriding Championship buckle.

Over the years, we have seen many past riders make their way out of the novice and into the open division. One such rider is Damon Tritthart who got started in the Crossfire Novice Series and will be returning this Friday to the Boneyard General Repair Boyz & Bullz as a full fledged bull rider!
